Storage battery: worth it for your installation?
A storage battery lets you use in the evening the electricity produced during the day, increasing your self-consumption rate — at the cost of a significant addition to the quote, partly offset by a dedicated Klimabonus grant.
Who a battery makes sense for
- Households away during the day who consume mostly in the evening.
- Households wanting backup security during grid outages (depending on the inverter/battery type chosen).
- Installations where the feed-in tariff for surplus is well below the price of purchased electricity — the case for most 2026 contracts.
Who it's less of a priority for
A household present during the day, with consumption already well aligned with solar output, gets a more limited benefit from a battery, at least in the first few years — the payback depends heavily on the consumption profile, best assessed with the installer.
Klimabonus for the battery
The Klimabonus 2026 subsidises a storage battery up to €2,250, following the formula Grant = Qbat × (500 − 500/18 × Qbat) — for example about €2,000 for a 6 kWh battery. See thefull Klimabonus 2026 scale and oursolar panel prices page to place this cost in your overall budget.
